Hello, dear. Have we met?
While some people think of Mrs. Murphy as the imaginary 4th person at a 3-person mahjong game, she’s actually quite something else.
Mrs. Murphy arrives perfume first and toting a handbag with an enviable travel history. She always goes in for a hug, with her charm bracelets jingling like the mixing up of mahjong tiles, She’s graceful in polite company, but those who know her well recognize the glint in her eye that signals the delivery of a slightly naughty quip.
After decades flitting around the fashion & design sphere, she’s hung up her heels in exchange for an unassuming black felt tip pen to author her bespoke mahjong cards. Each one designed to celebrate life’s best moments spent with dear friends.
At her shoulder is Charleston, her devoted and delightfully opinionated bird. He cannot resist offering the occasional reminder of a rule to keep the game on task. Mrs. Murphy inherited Charleston from her very fancy grandmother, Nana Madge and Grandpa Bob, who taught her how to play mahjong during the golden hour in their chintz and wicker sunroom.
Together, Mrs. Murphy and Charleston are a study in elegance and mischief. She with her love of estate sales and impromptu dinner dance parties. He with his sharp eye and insistence that his cage be lined with the pink newsprint of the Financial Times, for style and stock tips, of course. A perfect pair (no jokers).
